To play any sport an athlete has to have two things working for him.
The same is true for a christian.
They both must have their feet in proper position and the must use 'follow-thru'
When a christian begins his walk with God it is crucial that he be taught, research (study), and develop a solid foundation. As the christian sees his walk with our Father develop and he stays in tune with God's purposes for him then he will also have to be ready for the moving to the tune of His spirit and remained on-balance.
Like-wise, no matter the sport, the truism of 'if ya' feet ain't right, you ain't right,' is factual.
When youth sports are taught today the biggest emphasis with even the littlest of players; is stance and footwork.
Basketball requires balance, football takes power, tennis demands agility, bowling and golf require steadfastness, and ALL sports, if played to an athletes best level of performance see the achievement that starts with that solid foundation.
A follow-thru is also key in athletics.
Whether you see a punter follow-thru with his kicking foot being almost over his head after he has pulled the ball through to get the best punt he can, or a free-throw shooter release his shot and as the ball rolls off of his finger-tips an examination of his follow-thru is to see all his fingers on the shooting hand pointing toward to floor. We use to call that, 'signing your shot,' and was very effective, A baseball player nor a golfer just makes contact do they. No, instead after hitting the ball they will always follow-thru by bringing the club/bat all the way around. Watch the quarterback throw the football. After releasing it out of his hand, notice, especially on the slow motion shots, as he also flips his wrist and brings his arm forward/down. His follow-thrus insures a spiral(a quality throw) and the arm being brought forward is two-fold, being designed to get his whole body into the throw(strength) and to move his throwing arm out of the range of leaping defenders.
For a christian the follow-thru is also critical.
As a christian grows and see's where there are places in the activities and ministries of his church one can easily see that there are many places within that are in need.
Following thru and being part of one of the areas of the body is just one example where a christian uses follow through.
I think that it is safe to say, that almost all churches need growth and therefore following thru on a plan to get out and share the news of His coming kingdom is an area that all Christians are called to do.
And, while planning to do all of these things is great, it won't happen without follow-thru.
* Yeah, I know, follow-thru should be spelled follow-through, but, there is too much sports writer in me to spell it that way. Also, when was the last time I wrote about being a spelling bee chumpion(oops, lol)?
